June 14, 2014 – The curtain has risen at the 17th Shanghai International Film Festival, where Piaget’s global ambassador, Gong Li, today became the first ever, female film star to serve as President of the Festival’s jury panel. Known as the Academy Awards of the East, the Shanghai International Film Festival enjoys a long-established reputation as the premiere gathering for distinguished filmmakers from China and abroad.

Arriving at the Festival, Gong Li made a dramatic entrance in a cream-colored gown, perfectly accented with Piaget Haute Joaillerie. Blossoming like a jeweled rose on the red carpet, she epitomized the ultimate in glamour, elegance and sophistication.

Highly-acclaimed for her roles in Raise the Red Lantern and Farewell My Concubine, Gong Li is not only the first Chinese celebrity featured on the cover of TIME magazine, but also the only Chinese actress to win awards in the world’s three major international film festivals. At this year’s 67th Annual Cannes International Film Festival, Gong Li once again captured the spotlight with her new role in Coming Home. Following the film’s official screening, she received a heartfelt applause from audience members that lasted more than 10 minutes.

Her appointment as Jury President of the Golden Goblet Award marks another shared mile stone between Gong Li and Piaget, following the actress’ triumphant return from Cannes in May. With her continued achievements, she perfectly embodies the Piaget motto, “Always do better than necessary.” Piaget is proud to support Gong Li and to continue to champion creativity and craft through its ongoing sponsorship of leading cinematic events such as the Film Independent Spirit Awards, the Hong Kong Film Awards and the Golden Horse Film Festival and Awards.
