After their victories at Le Mans 2016 and at the Nürburgring 2016, the Porsche Motorsport LMP1 teams came with strong intentions and high expectations to the WEC debut of the Six Hours of Mexico 2016. After a thrilling battle between Porsche and Audi, the two Porsche 919 Hybrid crossed the finish line in first and fourth place. Chopard is proud to be the official timing partner of the Porsche Motorsport team, winners of the 6 Hours of Mexico 2016 WEC race. Inspired by the Porsche 919 Hybrid 2016 prototype car, Chopard presented for the first time in America the Superfast Chrono Porsche 919 Black Edition chronograph, produced in a 100-piece limited serie.

The reigning world champion team of Timo Bernhard, Brendon Hartley and Mark Webber won the momentous six-hour race in Mexico City. By winning the fifth out of nine races in the FIA World Endurance Championship, with the 919 Hybrid, Porsche further extended its lead in the manufacturers’ standings. The second Porsche Motorsport team composed of the trio, Romain Dumas, Neel Jani and Marc Lieb, came fourth and extended their lead in the drivers’ world championship after winning the ultimate race of Le Mans 2016. They continue to lead in the drivers’ world championship by 41 points.

The fastest race lap on the 4.304-kilometre Formula One track was achieved at superfast speed by Chopard’s ambassador Brendon Hartley in 1:25.880 minutes on lap 114.

This is the fourth victory this season for the Porsche 919 Hybrid, after the victories at Silverstone, the Nürburgring and Le Mans. In total, the prototype has won eleven races since its 2014 debut. It’s the sixth success for Bernhard, Hartley and Webber in WEC since the return of Porsche. Porsche reaffirms its current supremacy over the manufacturers’ standings with 201 points ahead of Audi (158) and Toyota (112).

Chopard’s ambassador Mark Webber commented: “Another race win for Porsche and the number 1 crew. During my stint in the first third of the race I had a great battle with Lucas Di Grassi, and he was hunting me down for almost the entire stint. The call of the day was to manage traffic and find a rhythm. Also the track was pretty changeable.”

Brendon Hartley also said: “What a race, I’m very happy about this race win. ”

With the twisty 4.304-kilometre long circuit and the numerous classes going at different speeds, the race was an action packed success with lapping and overtaking manoeuvres under an uneven weather.

Porsche and Chopard: timing, precision and performance. A Superfast Chronograph

For the third year in a row, Chopard is the Official Timing Partner of Porsche Motorsport. Perfectly in line with the spirit of the Superfast watch collection, this prestigious partnership is an extension of Chopard’s longstanding commitment to automotive sports. In 2014, Chopard became “Official Timing Partner” of Porsche Motorsport for the German racing team’s grand comeback to endurance competition. That same year, in honour of this exclusive partnership, Chopard launched a Superfast chronograph inspired by the Porsche 919 Hybrid competing in the World Endurance Championship LMP1 category.

This year, at Le Mans, Chopard unveiled a new watch, the Superfast Chrono Porsche 919 Black Edition, a 100-piece limited serie. Exclusively available in Chopard boutiques, this model proudly flies high the banner of the new Porsche prototype by picking up its aesthetic codes. Witness the imposing 45 mm-diameter case made in titanium – an ultra-light material much favoured in the world of endurance racing – that is bead-blasted, blackened by a DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) treatment ensuring an extremely scratch-resistant coating, and water-resistant to 100 metres. Like a racing car equipped with the finest mechanism, the case of the Superfast Chrono Porsche 919 Black Edition with its sleek, sporty lines houses a ‘motor’ built for competition: Chopard Calibre 03.05-M. Designed like an authentic engine, entirely produced and assembled in Chopard’s Fleurier Ebauches workshops, this mechanical self-winding chronograph movement delivers a substantial 60-hour power reserve and features a flyback function.

The FIA World Endurance Championship will continue on September 17th 2016 for the 6 Hours of America in Austin Texas.
