There may have been tears of joy for Bafta recipients, but who were the winners and losers in the style stakes?

Kate Winslet looked stunning in a black fitted Zac Posen halterneck gown which she wore with ?1 million worth of Chopard accessories.

Spanish beauty Penelope Cruz, who also chose black, was elegant in a velvet Azzedine Alaia dress while Angelina Jolie was breathtaking in a black Armani Prive gown with yellow detail and Christian Louboutin shoes.

But the jury was out for Slumdog Millionaire star Freida Pinto who chose a pink ruffled Oscar de la Renta number while Goldie Hawn’s tight-fitting Dolce & Gabanna gown got a thumbs down.

Channel 4 – News – Bafta fashion winners and losers

The SAG Awards may be about the “work,” but the dresses are inarguably more interesting than the cavalcade of low key gowns we saw at the Golden Globes. Maybe it’s the rainbow of bold, look-at-me colors — from pastel coral to emerald to royal blue — or the frothy, seemingly edible tiers and long trains. Clearly, the actresses decided to go big tonight and keep Hollywood’s economy afloat with boatloads of glamour.

Was the red, white and blue trend fueled by Obama fever? Kate Winslet, who opted for a subdued YSL column dress at the Globes, went with a dazzling royal blue Narciso Rodriguez bias cut gown with a 30 carat diamond bracelet by Chopard. I love how the silhouette accentuates her sexy figure. Click the link below to read the full article....

ELLE cover girl Kate Winslet does the double at Golden Globes

After no Golden Globe Awards ceremony last year, 2009’s was back with for, the most part, classic glamour, and a deservedly stellar year for the British.

ELLE’s cover girl Kate Winslet, scored a double, winning Best Actress for her role in Revolutionary Road, and Best Supporting Actress for The Reader. Meanwhile small Brit flick Slumdog Millionaire took home numerous awards including Best Film and Best Director for Danny Boyle.

But the real winner of the night was understated sophistication. Reflective of the spring shows, dresses were ‘forever pieces’, the kind of gowns that could be worn season after season, teamed with statement cocktail jewellery and heirloom pieces, while the colours of the night were subtle, black, nude or one of springs new sherbet shades.

Leading the charge was Kate Winslet in a classic YSL black floor length, strapless gown teamed with a 47 carat diamond bracelet from Chopard, and Angelina Jolie who sparkled in a nude Atelier Versace gown created especially for her (she was nominated for best actress.) She teamed this with Neil Lane diamonds and an almost make-up less face, looking about as natural as you can dare on a red carpet.

Those who opted for colour including Slumdog Millionaire newcomer Freida Pinto in Christian Lacroix, and Cameron Diaz, who wore a dusty pink taffeta one-shouldered gown by Chanel none the less teamed their brighter hues with barely there or nude make-up looks, for a pared down finish.

The A-list made one other major trend obvious last night, this year focus on the shoulder. In either one shoulder or completely strapless gowns almost every actress flashed springs new erogenous zone.
