Best Actress winner Kate Winslet chose to wear the brand even whilst receiving her Golden Globes, SAG and BAFTA Awards. Penelope Cruz, who also won a Bafta this year before winning the Best Supporting Actress Oscar, had chosen Chopard too.

There may have been tears of joy for Bafta recipients, but who were the winners and losers in the style stakes?

Kate Winslet looked stunning in a black fitted Zac Posen halterneck gown which she wore with ?1 million worth of Chopard accessories. 

Spanish beauty Penelope Cruz, who also chose black, was elegant in a velvet Azzedine Alaia dress while Angelina Jolie was breathtaking in a black Armani Prive gown with yellow detail and Christian Louboutin shoes.

But the jury was out for Slumdog Millionaire star Freida Pinto who chose a pink ruffled Oscar de la Renta number while Goldie Hawn’s tight-fitting Dolce & Gabanna gown got a thumbs down.

Channel 4 – News – Bafta fashion winners and losers

LOS ANGELES ? The Golden Globe Awards will have the patina of Hollywood glamour ? just a bit more low-key than usual.

From red-carpet fashions to parties and swag suites, the economic meltdown is intruding on the 66th annual show, which returns to NBC at 8 p.m. Sunday after being canceled last year because of the writers? strike.

An estimated 20 million viewers could tune in to see what stars such as Angelina Jolie, Kate Winslet and Pen?lope Cruz will wear, and designers still hope the placements will result in increased awareness and sales. To that end, don?t expect to see everyone in plain black dresses because Wall Street is in mourning.

?My instinct is always escapism,? said Rachel Zoe, who is styling best actress nominee Anne Hathaway and presenter Cameron Diaz. ?Red-carpet and awards shows to me are not pretentious. It?s an escape from reality….[In the] recession, everyone?s getting hit. People look to Hollywood for an escape. People need an escape, life is tough enough.?

Founded in 1906 as a pen-making company, Montblanc transformed itself into a luxury goods maker in the mid-1990s, adding limited-edition watches, jewelry, leather goods and perfume. Today, the writing instruments business makes up less than 50 per cent of the company’s total production, while the number of its boutiques has increased to 330 worldwide.

The company became a subsidiary of the Switzerland-based Compagnie Financi?re Richemont, the world’s second-largest luxury goods company after LVMH. Chief Executive Lutz Bethge says the Middle East and Asia are the new focus areas for Montblanc’s growth. The firm opened its largest boutique in the Middle East at Dubai Mall last month. Its largest store worldwide is a multi-storey boutique in Shanghai. Excerpts from an interview:

Montblanc has moved from a writing instruments manufacturer to other products such as jewelry and watches. What prompted the diversification?

In the writing business, we became known for our craftsmanship, for classical, timeless design which was the basis for the iconic product.

But in the early 1990s, we started to diversify and go into areas where our customers would feel Montblanc would have the basics right. This is in watches, leather products, and jewelry in recent years. Today, the brand is significantly developed in international jewelry. This does not mean that writing instruments are no longer our focus. Writing instruments have changed. Today, writing instruments are much more jewelry that happen to write. And we are taking this to the next level. We are creating special editions. We are inviting our special customers to design their own writing instruments.
