The enthusiasts of luxury watch brand Panerai are surely thrilled at the 2010 reintroduction of the fabled Mare Nostrum, a timepiece which was intended as an issue timepiece to deck officers of the Italian Navy in the 1940s but did not proceed to production beyond a few prototypes, all of which were thought lost until the recent discovery of one. It was this surviving example which Officine Panerai used for the creation of a revived Mare Nostrum chronograph–an exhibit that has received a most enthusiastic reception at SIHH 2010. The new timepiece, which carries the reference PAM00300, faithfully recreates the prototype in all of its massive 52mm glory and will be produced in a limited edition of just 99 watches.

In an interesting bit of news, the announcement has been made that the prestigious high luxury watch collections of Gerald Genta and Daniel Roth will be fully integrated into the Bvlgari brand. These two haute horlogerie houses have been under the Bvlgari Group umbrella since 2000, and represent the upper end of the watchmaking sector, in terms of both finishing quality and mechanical complication. The decision was announced on January 15, 2010 by Francesco Trapani, CEO of the Bvlgari Group.
In 2010, Swiss watchmaker Piaget again reprises its reputation for impeccable grace in the realm of exquisite high luxury dress timepieces. A new interpretation of the round Altiplano wristwatch presents a full-figured 43mm case in 18-karat pink or white gold, as well as the impressive Piaget Caliber 1208P. This movement, like all others which tick inside Piaget watches, is crafted in house. Refinement, an exceptional degree of finish, and breathtaking slimness–the latter in particular–can be numbered as its most notable traits.
